When to Replace Your Industrial Heating Element

Industrial heating elements play an important role in a wide range of sectors. From the food and drink industry to healthcare and much more, without a properly working heating element, a whole host of problems can occur.

With this in mind, it’s essential that heating elements and components in your machinery and equipment are always performing at the optimum level.

If performance or functionality drops, then it is likely a sign that your heating element needs replacing.

In this article, the team here at Hedin Heaters will take a look at some of the common signs that could indicate you need to replace your industrial heating element.

When to replace your industrial heating element

Over time, it’s normal for components within heating systems to suffer from a bit of wear and tear.

However, there are a few signs to look out for that might suggest an industrial heating element needs to be replaced.

This includes:

Discolouration

You may notice that heating elements that have not been properly maintained suffer from discolouration. Usually, this will take the form of rusting or a build-up of sedimentation on the heater. This can adversely affect your heating system as it will make heat transfer less efficient and can ultimately lead to a system failure if ignored.

Sometimes, the element can simply be cleaned to rid it of the debris that’s causing the problem, however, it may also be necessary to completely replace the component.

Age

Perhaps the most obvious sign that your heating element needs to be replaced is its age. Often, the performance of these components will begin to deteriorate over time and the best way to mitigate a sudden decline is to ensure that the element is replaced in a timely manner to prevent your entire system being affected.

How long your heating element will last will depend on a number of factors including:

  • Humidity
  • How often it’s maintained
  • Its environment (such as air quality and exposure to liquid)
  • Frequency of use

Damage

If your element has become damaged, a replacement is usually the best option. While sometimes you may be able to get the element repaired, this is usually more expensive than simply replacing it. Plus, if the component is fairly old, it may also make more sense to replace it rather than attempt to fix it.

Upgrading your heating system

If you’re in the process of upgrading a heating system, then this is another good time to think about replacing a heating element. This will help to ensure that your system will continue to perform well and to a high level after the upgrade, with a new heating element working as a great addition to the system.
